Hello, I’m Tom Probst the 8th Grade US History Teacher here at Valley Park. I am entering my 6th year of teaching and I feel privileged to be tasked with teaching your child virtually. It is a great challenge and responsibility and I am looking forward to this opportunity.
The I plan to use a flipped classroom focused on building social studies skills for all students. Content will unfold chronologically and will be used to help students build their social studies skillset.
Students will act like detectives; students will learn to approach history through breaking down evidence. Then students will make sense of the evidence through the lens of context, close readings, sourcing, corroboration and bias. Once complete students will answer higher level questions about history using these social studies skills. Finally, we will always compare and contrast the past with our world today.
